Recovery Mode

I decided not to hike any further today. Yesterday Rupert had kindly offered me a ride in his boat across the water to Marsden Point where the trail picked up again. After some thought I decided not to accept the boat ride and instead I was given a lift into Whangarei City by Moira’s son Lewis who was on his way to work round lunchtime. To cut a long story short – I headed south from here in search of a place to rest my weary feet. I’ll have to make my way back to Marsden Point when my heels are ready for more hiking. While I feel strong enough and have plenty of energy to continue, a new layer of skin must first form.

In a word my predicament is – frustrating. The first signs of blisters forming on my heels was back at Mangapa Bridge on 23rd October. I’m sure my skin will toughen up for the trail ahead. For now it’s my only option.

Ouch! That looks very painful. Put your feet up for a while and hope they will be better very soon. The photographs throughout your journey are really beautiful. We are looking forward to seeing your parents soon in Sydney. Best wishes etc Jill and Malcolm
