Kerikeri Hospitality

An incredibly slow and long walk into Kerikeri where I finally arrived at Woodlands Motel. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay here. The owners Tony and Wendi really looked after me well. One night I returned from a long walk and Wendi had dinner all ready and waiting for me. How is that for hospitality! The motel is surrounded by tall trees of all sorts (some Redwoods too!) and there are some really great short trails through the forests and along the river.

I spent some time walking to some of the attractions which included the famous Stone Store and Rainbow Falls. My blisters enjoyed the few days recovery. I made a few trips into town and had a massage too. I bought some Compeed plasters for my heels and they worked wonders. Thanks Dave and Clare for the tip on this one! I’ll be able to hike out of here a lot sooner with these plasters on my heels than without them.

Dear Kenyon, we are enjoying your posts and are full of admiration for you doing this fantastic hike. I could have told you about the Compeed plasters! Pleased that your blisters are getting better. Very best wishes, Malcolm and Jill (in London).

    • Hi Jill and Malcolm! Great to hear from you both! I am taking another few days rest because my heels really didn’t agree with the last set of trails. I really do just feel like hiking on but that would only slow the trip down in the long run. I am going to take a side trip to Great Barrier Island whilst I am alongside it. That is what my heels have asked for so I’d better act on the request. I’ll take a ferry over to the island and stay a couple of nights and Ill be cycling around whilst there to give the feet a break. When I get hiking again Ill be approaching Auckland.
I hope you are both well! Bye for now, Kenyon
