The best part of the food preparation was mixing the muesli in the waterproof food drop buckets. We have plenty of extra muesli for the motorhome trip north. Each morning we drive till we find an incredible view where we set out chairs and a table for breakfast. Maybe it’s the view that makes this mix taste so great? Read more

Queenstown Depleted Several Times Over

Buying and packing food in a small town has it’s good and bad points. We love the quiet roads and ample parking spaces but when it comes to buying food in Queenstown for an extended hike it takes quite a few trips to the supermarket to complete the check list. Read more

This Pack Rocks!

I managed to get out for a few hikes in between all the packing sessions (whilst we were waiting for the supermarket shelves to be restocked). As we didn’t have time to pack all the gear into my backpack, Gordon filled my pack with a few rocks to get the weight up. Read more

Awe of Mt Taranaki

I’ve flown past Mt Taranaki a few times but this time would be the time it appeared to stand out most of all. Whilst I won’t get that close to Taranaki on this hike, I will certainly see some great views of it along the way. With snow and surrounding cloud cover, this is one of those great views.  Read more

Starting from The Top

On a previous hiking trip to New Zealand we ended the trip off on a high by having dinner at Auckland’s Sky Tower “Orbit” revolving restaurant.
